Elizabeth "Betty" J. Baxter, 87, of Rock Island, passed away Wednesday
April 5, 2017 at Silver Cross Nursing Center, Rock Island.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's
Catholic Church, Rock Island. Burial will be at National Cemetery,
Arsenal Island. Recitation of the Rosary will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at
Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 - 7th Ave., Rock
Island, with visitation following from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday.
Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church, Rock Island.
Betty was born March 16, 1930 in Rock Island, a daughter of William and
Martha Bredar Rumbolt. She was first married to Glenn Hoy. She later
married LaVerne "Vern" Baxter in 1956 in Muscatine, Iowa. He preceded
her in death on December 21, 1986.
She was employed for over 20 years at Walgreen's on eleventh street in
Rock Island . In earlier years, she worked at the former Servus Rubber,
and then at the former McCabe's department store in Rock Island.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Rock Island and the
Ladies Sodality. Betty enjoyed crocheting, crafts, flower arranging, and
being of help to others.
Surviving are her children (and spouses), Patrick (Susan) Hoy,
Galesburg, IL, Jodie (Greg) Farrell, Englewood, CO, John (Karey) Baxter,
East Moline, IL, and Mary (Peter) Pappas, Denver, CO; seventeen
grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; and numerous nieces,
nephews and other family.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Christopher
Hoy, great grandson, Adrian Baxter, sisters, Rose Elaine VanderBeke and
Lucille Tarpy, and brother, Dr. Arnold Rumbolt.
