Obituary

Elizabeth A. Langheim, 87, of Rock Island, passed away at home after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer on March 14, 2018.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island.  Visitation will be 4 to 7 pm, Monday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7th Avenue, Rock Island where a rosary will be recited at 3:30 pm, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island.

Memorials may be made to St. Pius X Catholic Church Rock Island, or St. Mary's Catholic Church in Rock Island.

Elizabeth was born December 24, 1930, in Watertown, WI, the daughter of Henry and Anna Possley, moving to Erie, IL as an infant.  She was united in marriage to Francis A. Langheim on August 13, 1955. He preceded her in death in 1975. She met Marvin Mirr in 1999 and their companionship spanned almost 16 years until his death in 2016.

Elizabeth graduated from Marycrest College in Davenport and taught business classes in high school in Erie, IL, where she met a fellow teacher who later became her husband, Francis. She then transitioned into a career of raising a family.  She later worked at The Rock Island Bank, at WHBF Rock Island, and finally National City Bank in Rock Island from which she retired in 2002.

Elizabeth took up running in her 50s and successfully competed in The Bix-7 Road Race 25 consecutive years.  She was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan highlighted by a World Series win and being allowed to walk the bases of Wrigley Field in 2016.

After retiring, Elizabeth walked to mass daily at St. Pius X Catholic Church and was very involved in church activities including the Alter and Rosary Society and St. Vincent DePaul Food Pantry. She traveled extensively with Marvin Mirr both stateside and to Europe.

Elizabeth is survived by her children, Teresa Langheim, Moline, Lisa (Jon) Loquist, Rock Island, Jennifer Sharp, Beaufort, NC, Paul Langheim, Chicago, IL, Anne (Mario) Rodriguez, Rock Island, Matthew Langheim, Hazelhurst, WI, Gregory (Carole) Langheim, Raleigh, NC.;  16 grandchildren: Meghan Ludin and Rebecca Harl; Nick, Ryan and Leslie Loquist; Erica Ganey and Ben Cobert; Daniel and Hannah Rodriguez; Samuel, Jacob, Anna and Sarah Langheim; Henry, Mary and Luke Langheim; and 5 great-grandchildren;  her sister, Mary Jane Finnicum, sister-in-law, Dorothy Possley, her lifelong friend, Mary Joy Feeney; Marvin's children, Steven (Barbara) Mirr, Ron (Deanne) Mirr, Pamela (Don) Goerner and Diane (Brian) Spangler.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Valeria Hein, her brothers, Maurice, Harold, Francis and Leroy Possley.

Thank you to Unity Point At Home – Hospice who enabled Elizabeth to remain at home under the care of her loving family. She voiced many times throughout her illness how proud she was of her family and grateful for their unwavering care.
