Elizabeth Marshall, 71, of Davenport, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at Harmony Utica Ridge in Davenport.

A memorial service celebrating Elizabeth’s life will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory in Rock Island. Elizabeth was born on January 22, 1955, in Clarksdale, Mississippi, the beloved daughter of Calvin and Ruby (Jackson) Myles. Though she was small in stature, Elizabeth had a heart that was anything but small. From a young age, she was known for her loving nature, compassion, determination, and willingness to help others. Those qualities would become the foundation of a life devoted to caring for people and standing up for those who needed a voice.

After graduating from high school, Elizabeth pursued nursing school with the desire to care for those in need. She earned her certification as a nurse’s assistant and worked in several nursing homes, where she found purpose in serving others. After a back injury brought that chapter of her career to an end, Elizabeth did not allow it to stop her from caring for people. Instead, she found new ways to make a difference.

Guided by her faith and a deep sense of purpose, Elizabeth became a foster parent, opening her home and her heart to children and young adults who needed love, stability, and someone to believe in them. She also owned and operated a daycare, providing care and guidance to children and families in her community. Her compassion extended beyond those she welcomed into her home. Elizabeth became a passionate advocate for people who were often overlooked or unheard.

Her advocacy work led her to the Rock Island Housing Authority, where she served as president of the Manor Homes Resident Council. She tirelessly worked to improve living conditions and ensure that residents in low-income housing were treated with dignity and respect. Elizabeth was never afraid to speak up when she believed something was wrong. She organized protests, met with city officials, and worked to improve racial relations in her community, firmly standing on her belief that equality and fairness should be afforded to everyone.

Through every chapter of her life, Elizabeth’s faith in God remained at the center of who she was. She taught Sunday school and served as church secretary at Pentecostal Deliverance. Her relationship with God was not simply something she spoke about; it was something she lived. Her faith gave her strength, guided her choices, and remained steadfast until the very end.

Elizabeth also knew how to find joy in life’s simple blessings. She carried a special love for her Mississippi roots, where she enjoyed gardening and fishing. Those moments brought her peace and reminded her of home. When she could no longer participate in those activities, she found comfort in her favorite chair, watching Gospel music videos on YouTube, praying, and checking in with the people she loved. Calling family and friends each week was one of the ways Elizabeth made sure the people in her life knew they mattered.

Elizabeth was a woman who loved deeply and gave generously. She had a compassionate heart, a giving spirit, and an unconditional love for her family and friends. She will be remembered for her faith, her courage, her advocacy, and her determination to never give up. She also had a special spunk and strong will that made her uniquely Elizabeth. She could be strong-willed, but that same strength allowed her to stand firm for what she believed was right and continue fighting for others even when the road was difficult.

Elizabeth leaves to cherish her memory her children, Cairo Loggins and Ruby (Rudolph) Quick; her grandchildren, Juan Quick, Daysha Conroy, Kiaree Loggins, Lauren Quick, Maya Quick, Kairen Loggins, Jayden Quick, Gabrielle “Gabi” Quick, and bonus granddaughter Tabitha Ledbetter; her great-grandchildren, Malaya, DJ, Della, Kendalyn, and Carmel; along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched through her kindness and service.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Calvin and Ruby Myles; her brother, Calvin Myles Jr.; her brother, Robert Myles; her sister, Nonie Mae Johnson and her niece Pamela Myles.

Elizabeth’s life was a testimony to what it means to serve, to love, to advocate, and to keep the faith. Her time on earth may have come to an end, but the love she gave, the people she helped, and the lives she touched will continue to carry her legacy forward.

“Well done, good and faithful servant.” — Matthew 25:23
