Elizabeth M. Schwegler, 80, of Rock Island, died Saturday, August 12, 2017 at Silver Cross Pavilion at Friendship Manor, Rock Island.   Services will be at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, August 22, 2017, at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island, with visitation one hour before the service.  Per her request, private burial of cremains will be at Chapel Grove Cemetery, Taylor Ridge. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Friendship Manor, the Quad City Animal Welfare Center, or a charity of your choice.

Elizabeth Marie Schwegler was born on July 18, 1937 in Rock Island, a daughter of Fred H. Schwegler and Susie A. Forgy Schwegler.  A resident of Rock Island, she was a 1955 graduate of Rock Island High School.  She earned degrees in mathematics from the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago and the University of Iowa.  Elizabeth taught math at Eastern Illinois and Northern Illinois Universities and Scott Community College, plus two years in Hamburg, Germany.  She worked at Rock Island Arsenal for thirty years as an Operations Research Analyst.

Among Elizabeth's enjoyments were playing the piano, bicycling, swimming, nature, and animals, especially her cats.  She loved going on Wisconsin fishing vacations with her brother Roy.  Liz was a gifted seamstress of clothing and maker of beautiful afghan blankets and counted-cross-stitch décor pieces.  She also enjoyed weaving and crocheting.

She is survived by two nephews, Thomas Schwegler (Springfield, IL) and William Schwegler (Cedar Rapids, IA), and a sister-in-law, Nancy Schwegler (Rock Island).

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Roy and John; sister-in-law Natalie, niece Paula, and nephew David.
