WAYNE, Elizabeth Ann, "Liz" or "Betty Ann," age 56, of Rock Island passed peacefully on December 27, 2020 at home surrounded by her family. She is survived by her beloved mother, Virginia Wayne, and three brothers William, David, and James Wayne; her husband Solomon Israel; daughters Francesca Randle (husband Kevin Randle and son Bennett Randle) and Jessica Byczynski; stepchildren Kristen Echols (husband Teighlor Echols, and children Natalie, Jaiden, and Charlotte), Jessica Israel, Sarah Israel, and Jacob Israel, as well as her adored dogs Walter and Callie.
Elizabeth attended Rock Island High School, "Crew of '82," and obtained her BS in Special Education at Illinois State University, and her MS in Special Education Psychology from Northern Illinois University. Elizabeth taught for over 30 years as a behavior disorder and special education teacher, and in the Rock Island School District for 22 years (Lincoln, Intermediate Academy, RIHS, Washington Junior High). She was the RIMSD Grievance Chair for 10 years, a union member and negotiations team member for teacher contracts for 16 years, a member of the Executive Council for the RISMD School Board, a member of the RIEA Scholarship Committee, and a building representative. She was awarded the Life Changer of the Year Award of 2018-2019.
Elizabeth and family would like to thank all of her students for the joy they brought to her life, especially to those who sent her cards and artwork. Elizabeth was passionate about her students in and out of the classroom, and served as a board member for the Autism Society of Quad Cities from 2017 - present. She also volunteered annually at the Royal Ball Run for Autism.
To honor Elizabeth's life, she had requested that donations be made to the Autism Society of the Quad Cities in lieu of flowers.
