Elsie I. Duranso, 82, of Rock Island, died Saturday, April 12, 2014 at UnityPoint Health- Trinity Rock Island. Services will be at 11 AM Wednesday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island. Visitation will be an hour prior to service time at the funeral home. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Rock Island. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in care of the QC Animal Welfare Center, Milan.

Elsie was born in Rock Island on June 10, 1931, the daughter of William and Sophie Oertel. She married Kenneth Duranso in 1954. They later divorced.

Elsie worked for Ametek, Sears and then retired from John Deere Parts in Milan in June of 1996. She loved flower gardening, animals, reading, cross-stitching and jig-saw puzzles. Elsie was a former member of the Red Hat Society.

Survivors include her daughters (and spouses), Katherine (Dick Permantier) McGrath, Rock Island, Julie (Joseph) Veloz, Milan, Carol Salmonson, Rock Island and Cindy (Daniel) Geist, Taylor Ridge; grandchildren, Adrian, Andrew and Brandon Veloz, Amy (Brian) Blair, Tyler Salmonson and Celina McGrath; and great-grandchildren, Blake and Taylor Setser and Jack and Jamie Veloz.

She was preceded in death by her parents and grandson, Eric Salmonson.
