Obituary

Elvira Stewart, 87, of Rock Island, IL, passed away Saturday, August 22, 2026 at her home.

Funeral services will be 12:00 p.m., Friday, September 4, 2026, at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030-7th Avenue, Rock Island, IL. Visitation will be held an hour prior starting at 11:00 am to the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Chippiannock Cemetery in Rock Island, IL. Memorials may be made in care of the family.

Elvira was born February 25, 1939 in Jackson, MS, the daughter of Willie and Mandy (Jones) Devrouax. She married Bobby Lee Stewart, her husband of over 60 years. She attended the University of Mississippi Medical Center to become a surgical technologist. Elvira retired from UnityPoint Health-Trinity in Rock Island.

A true socialite at heart, Elvira cherished hosting family and friends for gatherings filled with love and connection. Whether celebrating birthdays, holidays, or simply the beauty of togetherness, she created an inviting atmosphere where memories were made and stories were shared. Elvira often enjoyed spending time at the casino with Bobby, indulging in the thrill of games and the excitement of each other's company. Her zest for life, love for family, and generous spirit will forever be remembered and celebrated by all those fortunate enough to have known her.

Elvira was a woman of many passions. She found delight in the simple pleasures of life, often immersing herself in crossword puzzles. Her love for bucket gardening brought nature into her home, where she nurtured her plants with the same care and affection she devoted to her family. Sundays were particularly special, as they were reserved for cooking delicious meals, bringing family together around the table for warmth and laughter.

Survivors include her husband, Bobby; children, Shquonda Stewart and Bobby (Shaquanda) Stewart Jr.; grandchildren, Essence, Johnaizjha, Derryn, Bobby, Bobby III, Jamarlynn, and Brionjanique; great-grandchildren, Kamren, Kaizsa, Zaira, and Jamarlynn Jr.; and brother, Willie B. (Lou) Devrouax.

She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Harry Devrouax, George Devrouax, Johnny Devrouax and Rose Jones.
