Obituary

Elwyn "Al" Boyles, 86, Rock Island, died Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at Illini Restorative Care, Silvis surrounded by his family.

Services will be 11am Monday, May 11 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Davenport. Burial is at the Rock Island National Cemetery, where military honors will be presented by Moline American Legion Post 246. Visitation will be 9:30 am until service time Monday at the church. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island is assisting the family. Memorials may be made to Greater Quad Cities Us TOO Prostate Cancer Support Group.

Al was born Oct. 14, 1928 in Shelbyville, Missouri, the son of Lloyd Boyles and Edith Schatz Boyles. He married Marilyn J. Lynch on Jan. 30, 1955 in Davenport. She died March 2, 2005.

He graduated from Shelbyville High School and later attended Augustana College. Al served in the US Army during the Korean War.

Al launched his career in real estate when establishing Al Boyles Realty, and spent over 40 years selling real estate, his true passion. Al served several terms as president of the Rock Island County Board of realtors. He was recently recognized for "valuable services rendered to the real estate profession" as an Honorary Life Member Realtor. He was a member of the Rock Island Chamber of Commerce, serving on its legislative committee. He served on Model Cities Task Force, helping to fund and implementing the program in Rock Island.

Al was an active member of St Paul Lutheran Church, Davenport.

Later in his life, Al helped establish the Greater Quad Cities Us TOO Prostate Cancer Support Group.

Al continued his farming heritage by maintaining his family's land in Missouri, which is still managed by family today. He enjoyed working in the fields for as long as he was able, eventually accepting an advisory role. He enjoyed music and dancing. He loved to play cards and board games. Al was truly the life of any party.

Survivors include his daughter, Chris Neale, Madison, Wis.; son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Janalee Boyles, Colona; grandchildren, Adam Boyles, Clara Neale, Colton Boyles, Jesse Neale and Tynan Neale; He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, and sisters, Dorothy Bower and Lois Mauer.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Illini Restorative Care, Friendship Manor and Genesis Hospice for their respectful and loving care.
