Emil L. Mesich, 96, of Rock Island, passed away on Saturday, April 20, 2019 at his home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. on Monday at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. Entombment is at the Calvary Mausoleum, Rock Island, where military honors will be conducted by the Moline American Legion Post No. 246. Visitation is 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island, where a rosary will be recited at 2:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Disabled American Veterans. Emil was born on September 1, 1922 in Jezerana, Croatia, a son of Louis and Antonia Holjevac Mesich. He married Evelyn Ewig on May 22, 1948 in Milwaukee, Wis. She preceded him in death on January 28, 2011. Mr. Mesich was the Plant Equipment Designer for the International Harvester, Farmall Works, Rock Island. He retired from International Harvester in August 29, 1975 after 33 years of service. Emil was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, Allouez Council No. 658 Knights of Columbus, Rock Island. Mr. Mesich was a World War II U.S. Army veteran. Survivors include a daughter, Deborah Brown (Michael Ballinger), Rock Island; grandchildren, Shawn (Lanie) Brown, Autumn Brown (Dan Leach), Eric (Angie) Brown; great grandchildren, Lucas, Lila and Colin. The family would like to thank Emil's caregiver, Kaylyn Nava and UnityPoint Hospice Staff for their loving care.
