ROCK ISLAND – Ercell Gathright, 92, of Rock Island, passed away Thursday February 28, 2019 at UPH-Trinity.

Funeral services will be 11:00 am Friday March 8, 2019 at KNOX Chapel of Wheelan Pressly Funeral Home, 2106 7th Avenue, Rock Island. Friends are welcome to gather at 10:00 am at the funeral home. Interment will take place at Chippiannock Cemetery, Rock Island.

Ercell was born August 26, 1926 in De Kalb, MS, the daughter of John Quincy and Vador Edwards.  She was the second oldest of seven children.

She was a member of New Jerusalem Baptist Church, De Kalb, MS.

Ercell and Virgil married December 28, 1955 in Noxubee County, Mississippi.  From that union they had five children, Willie, Sharon, Gwen, Ricky and Caroline.

After thirty plus years of employment, she retired from Ralston Purina in Davenport, Iowa.

Ercell loved spending time with her children and sisters.  Ercell also enjoyed gardening, sewing and making preserves.

She is survived by sons Willie Gathright and Ricky Gathright of Rock Island, IL; daughters, Gwen Gathright of Rock Island, IL and Caroline Gathright of Des Moines, IA; and siblings, Erma Hudson of Rock Island, IL; Malcom Edwards of Minneapolis, MN and cousin, Geneva Wilson of Rock Island, IL.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John Quincy and Vador; daughter, Sharon Gathright; granddaughter, Tymisha Simmons; siblings, Alberta Perkins, Gladys Dublin, John Arthur Edwards, Mable Edwards and Winnie Hickman.
