Ernestine S. Collins, 76, of Rock Island, passed away Friday January 8, 2016 at Riverwood Rehabilitation, East Moline.
Funeral services will be 11:00am Wednesday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island, with Rev. Adrian L. Johnson, officiating. Visitation will be 10:00am to service time at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family.
Ernestine was born on September 13, 1939 in Chicago, the daughter of John Norris and Stella Slater. She married Bruce William Collins on January 8, 1960 in Chicago. He preceded her in death on October 9, 2011.
She retired from the former Franciscan Hospital, Rock Island.
Ernestine was a member of Gaines Chapel AME Church, East Moline, where she sang in the choir and State Chaplain with the East Moline ELKS. She loved cooking, hosting family gatherings and spending time with her family.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Kyle (Michelle) Collins, Rochester Hills, MI, Rhonda Collins, Davenport, Felicia (Wil) Pearson, Yelm, WA.; grandchildren, Devante Pearson, Kevin Eason, Paris Collins, all of Washington, Brittany Jefferson, Rock Island, Reece Collins and Sydney Collins, both of Michigan; great grandchildren, Travion Collins, Quanasia Knight, Quantrell Knight II, Azavia McGhee and Azavion McGheee, all of Rock Island; niece, Verlene Slater and best friend, Mary Lacey.
She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings.
