Esther Evelyn Vroman, 83, of Rock Island, passed away peacefully Saturday May 17, 2014 at Friendship Manor, Rock Island.Funeral services will be 2:00pm Saturday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Milan. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time Saturday at the funeral home. Private inurnment will be in Edgington Cemetery. Memorials may be left to the family.
Esther was born on March 9, 1931 in Richland, Ia., the daughter of Lale Goldson and Bertha Gladys (Hedges) Padget. She married Lyle A. Vroman on January 25, 1953 in Davenport, Ia.
Mrs. Vroman had been employed at Hiland Toyota as parts manager retiring in 1979. Previously she had been employed at Eagle Grocery Store and Spiegel Catalog.
Esther was a member of Moline Fire Department Auxiliary, Milan American Legion Post 569 Auxiliary, Moline American Legion Post 246 Auxiliary and Rushville Post 4. Mrs. Vroman also held several offices for the state and local American Legions and managed the kitchen at the Rushville American Legion.
She enjoyed gardening, canning, planting flowers, cooking, baking, sewing, needlepoint, knitting, crafts and collecting clowns.
Survivors include her husband, Lyle; children and spouses, Tate(Mary Ann) Vroman, Illinois City, Riley(Judy) Vroman, Andalusia, Marie(Sam) Weindruck, Summit, AR, Connie(Kelly) Smithhart, Concrete, WA, Debbie(Mike) Day, Moline; 11 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; brothers, LeRoy(Shirley) Padget, Newton, Ia., Lester(Yvonne) Padget, Goodyear, Az.; sister, Neva(Kenneth) Allen, Newnan, Ga.; step sister, Wannetta Ritz Huber, Edgewood, Wa.; brother in law, Floyd(Zita) Vroman, Moline.
She was preceded in death by her parents; step mother, Ola Padget; sister, Ellen Ruggles; brother, Carl Padget; step brothers, Wade Ritz and Offord Ritz; step sister, Doris Phillips; sister in law, Doris Eyler; brother in law, Howard Eyler.
