Eugene D. Gunnell, 89, of Rock Island, passed away on Friday, June 12, 2015 at Heartland Health Care Center, Moline. Services for Mr. Gunnell will be 10 am, Thursday at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 to 6 pm at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island. Entombment will be in the Calvary Mausoleum, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

Eugene was born on November 15, 1925 in Rock Island, a son of David and Margaret Hancq Gunnell. He married Elsie DeWulf on June 18, 1949 in Rock Island. She preceded her husband in death on May 12, 2002. Gene worked at John Deere Harvester Works, East Moline for 39 years. He retired from John Deere on May 1, 1982 as a Specification Analyst. Mr. Gunnell was a 1943 graduate of Rock Island High School. He was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island, and was a U.S. Navy World War II veteran.

Survivors include his children, Julie Werthmann, Rock Island, David (Kris) Gunnell, Edwards, ILL.; grandchildren, Angela Hughes, Elizabeth Gunnell, Jennifer Santoro, David Gunnell Jr.; great grandchildren, Julia, Josh, Isabella, Vincenzo, and Aria.
