Eugene L. "Gene" Schmidt, 75, of Milan, passed away Wednesday April 30, 2014 at UPH Trinity, Rock Island.Funeral services will be 11:00am Wednesday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island.

Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00pm Tuesday at the funeral home. Inurnment will be in Rock Island Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be left to the family.

Gene was born on March 5, 1939 in Davenport, the son of Benjamin J. and Lila H. Boetje Schmidt.

Mr. Schmidt was raised in the Quad City area most of his life, living in Milan since 1961. He had been employed by Roth Pump Company, Milan, retiring in 1985.

Gene was a avid boater, water skier, he also took great pride in caing for the family dogs and his yard. He loved spending time with his family especially his nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and several great-great nieces and nephews.

Survivors include his sister, Delores M. Birely; sister in law, Jeanny Schmidt; aunt, Shirley Boetje; nieces and nephews, Warren(Debbie) Birely, Marvetta(Harold) Jones, George(Becky) Birely, Dale Frederick Birely, Gail(Lance) Burkert, Terry(Tommy) Kerr, Fred(Kim) Schmidt, Marianne Schmidt, Clay Schmidt, Lisa(Lance) Lewis, Shon(Melissa) Schmidt, Hal Schmidt; numerous great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Benjamin J. Schmidt and Lila Boetje Oltmans; brother, Frederick W. Schmidt and niece, Karen.
