Everett "Leroy" Gamble, 92, of Illinois City, IL, passed away Thursday, June 29, 2023, at Iowa City VA Medical Center.
Cremations rite will be accorded. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, July 13, 2023, at Rock Island National Cemetery. Those whishing to go to the service are to meet at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island at 10:30 am for the procession over to the cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family.
Leroy was born October 3, 1930, in Webb City, MO, the son of Rodney and Edith (Huddleston) Gamble. Leroy served in the United States Navy. He married Erma Orris in 1953 in El Cajon, CA. She preceded him in death on November 11, 2020.
Leroy was skilled and had a vast knowledge of many things. He had many jobs such as a volunteer firefighter, a private pilot, operating an RV park, and working as a truck driver. His life centered around his family and he was always very proud of his son and daughter. One of Leroy's favorite things to do with his family was challenging them to think things though and figure out solutions to their problems themselves. Leroy never meet a stranger and was always the first to volunteer to help anyone in need. He had a love for motorcycles and driving across the country.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Bonnie (David) Renfro, Sulphur Springs, TX, Rod (Holly) Gamble, Ely, NV; grandchildren, Matthew (Amy), Kellie, Wendy (Mike), Robin (Jared), Jeremy (Sandra), Sarah (Tom), Alyssa, Kalob, Cayden, and Preston; great grandchildren, Hope, Kaitlyn, Ivy, Bradley, Arianna, Exavier, and Mark; 2 great great grandchildren; and siblings, Fred, Irene, and Sharon.
Leroy is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Dick; sisters, Betty Louise Lynch and Beulah Patricia Porter; and grandson, James.
