Everett M. Hessman, 90, of Taylor Ridge, passed away Thursday, May 21, 2015 at UPH-Trinity, Rock Island.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at Edgington Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Edgington. Visitation will be 4 PM to 7 PM on Monday, May 25, 2015, at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 801 Edgington St., Reynolds. Burial will be at Edgington Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Dunlap Cemetery to help with upkeep costs where Everett spent numerous hours helping to restore or the Shriners Children's Hospital.
Everett was born June 15, 1924 in Rock Island County near Buffalo Prairie, the son of Kline and Mary (Bopp) Hessman. He married Evelyn Anderson on January 9, 1949 in Edgington. Everett worked as a farmer for 74 years on the same farm. In 1996 he received the Rock Island County Conservation Farmer of the Year award for his conservation work on the farm. He retired on August 1, 1985 from John Deer Harvester Works after 20 years of employment. He worked with the Rock Island County Soil and Water Conservation District. Everett was a member of Edgington Evangelical Presbyterian Church and was a lifetime member of the Masonic Andalusia Lodge #516.
Everett is survived by his wife of 66 years, Evelyn Hessman, Taylor Ridge; daughters, Janalee (Lloyd) Keppy, Eldridge, IA, and Jeanette (Kenneth) Hunnemeder, Gurnee, IL; grandchildren, Brittany Hunnemeder, Gurnee, IL, Scott and Darren Keppy both of Eldridge, IA, and Ken Hunnemeder, Chicago, IL; sisters, Martha Kirkland, Edgington, Luella (James) Doonan, Aledo, and Eileen Anderson, West Branch, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Elda Cox, Gertrude Castor, Dora Keller, Ruby Castle, and Ellen Bryant; and brothers, Elmo and Donald Hessman.
