Fernando "Uncle Fernie or Ferdy" J. Herrera, 81, of Rock Island passed away on Monday, June 5, 2023 at home.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, June 10th at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 am on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will be at 1:30 pm on Monday, June 12th at Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Those wishing to attend can meet at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island at 1:00 pm on Monday. Memorial contributions may be made in support of the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Iowa. Please make checks payable to the University of Iowa Center for Advancement and please include the following on the memo line, "Gift in memory of Fernando Herrera". Fernando was born on March 3, 1942 in Davenport, Iowa, a son of Rosario and Maria (Torres) Herrera. He graduated from Rock Island High School. Fernando worked as a welder for John Deere for over 43 years. He thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors and going out for walks. He loved spending time with family and friends, especially his grandchildren. Although, his dog, Bebe, was his favorite companion.
Those left to cherish Fernando's memory include his daughters, Stacey Wilson and Tracey Herrera; grandchildren, Alicia Wilson, Angela Herrera, and Samantha Herrera; great-grandchildren, Zayden, Sebastian, Isabella, Athena, Alex, and Tony; great-great-grandson, Givanni; siblings, Delores (Lola) Segura and Michael Herrera; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Raymond Herrera, Rebecca Terronez, Carmela Lira, and Lyle Herrera.
