Florence F. Gersick, 101, of Northbrook, Illinois, formerly of Rock Island, passed away Sunday, March 5, 2017, at her home.

Graveside services will be 2:00 pm Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at the Rock Island Hebrew Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Jewish Federation of the Quad-Cities.

Florence was born on September 23, 1915 in Rock Island, the beloved daughter of Joseph and Bessie Finkelberg.  She married Albert D. Gersick on August 9, 1942 in Davenport.  He died July 10, 2016.

Florence grew up surrounded by a large and loving Wiss family of grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins, and she often spoke of her idyllic childhood.  She attended Davenport and Rock Island schools, graduating from Rock Island High School in 1934.  She worked in her parents' grocery store, Market Square Market, in Rock Island and Moline.

From 1946-1976, Al and Florence owned and operated Kiddyland and Gersick's Jr. Boot Shop at 1704 Third Avenue in Rock Island.  She was a member of the Tri-City Jewish Center and Hadassah.

Florence is survived by her children, son Barry (Linda) of Eagan, MN, and daughter Shelley Stangle of Buffalo Grove, IL; three granddaughters, Stephanie Gouette, Andrea (Danny) Dobrin and Lauren (Luke) Sauer; five great-grandchildren, Jayson and Samantha Gouette, Hailey and Nyla Dobrin and Kaia Sauer; and cousins Arlyne Connell and Harlan Wiss.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her brother Morris Fields and her son-in-law Douglas Stangle.
