Florence M. Hamilton, 104, of Rock Island, IL, passed away Friday,April 25, 2014 at Unity Point-Trinity, Rock Island.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 9:00 a.m. Saturday, May 3rd, at
St. Mary's Catholic Church, Rock Island. Burial will be at Memorial Park
Cemetery, Rock Island. A Rosary will be recited at 4:00 p.m. Friday, May
2nd, at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030 - 7th Ave., Rock Island, with
visitation following until 8:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to ARC of
Rock Island County.
Florence Mary Beaver was born July 3, 1909 in Anamosa, IA, a daughter
of Charles and Nettie (Sampica) Beaver. She married Edward F. Hamilton
on April 4, 1936 in Chicago, IL. He preceded her in death on August 31,
1966.
During World War II, Florence worked in the X-Ray Lab at the Rock
Island Arsenal. She then was a Registered Nurse and Telephone
Switchboard Operator at the former St. Anthony's Hospital, Rock Island
and then at Franciscan Medical Center, Rock Island, until her retirement
in 1974 after 35 years of service. Following her retirement, she was an
on-call worker at Trinity Medical Center for 10 years.
She is a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Rock Island and the
Altar and Rosary Society of the church. Florence was a member and
volunteer for many years at ARC of Rock Island County and Mercer
County, and a member of the Mother's Club of ARC. At the time of her
passing, she was a member and eldest living alumni of the Retiree's of
St. Anthony's and Franciscan Medical Center, "Tonys Club". Through the
years she also volunteered at Moline Rehabilitation Center.
Survivors include her nephew and God-son, Edward F.
(Carol) Hamilton, Crest Hill, IL; additional nieces and nephews, Linda
(Jerry) Hoge, Alsip, IL, Robert (Mary Ann) Lippner, Crown Point, IN,
Judy (Larry) Drudge, Tucson, AZ, and Barb (Dale) Selhost, Moline, IL;
and numerous great nieces, great nephews, and their families.
Florence was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and her
sister, Helen Ridgeway.
