Florence L. Simmon, 94, of Rock Island, died peacefully Thursday, July 27, 2017 at Silver Cross Nursing Center, Rock Island surrounded by her family.

A private graveside service will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery, Rock Island.  There is no visitation.  Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory is assisting the family.  Memorials may be made to Broadway Presbyterian Church or Friendship Manor, both of Rock Island.

Florence Robinson was born Jan. 19, 1923 in Mercer County, Illinois, a daughter of  Charles and Catherine Mayhew Robinson.  She married Frederick "Fritz" Simmon on Nov. 16, 1946 in Milan.  He died Jan. 14, 1966.

Florence graduated from Western Illinois University in Macomb.  She retired in 1987 from the Rock Island-Milan Public Schools, where she served as librarian at the Rock Island High School.

She was a member of Broadway Presbyterian Church, the Presbyterian Women, Royal Neighbors of America and was a charter member of Mill Creek Country Club (now Pinnacle Country Club), Milan.  Florence enjoyed playing golf and reading.

Survivors include her daughter, Deborah Simmon, Rock Island; son and daughter-in-law, Rick Simmon and Carolyn Eagle, St. Louis, Mo.; grandchildren, Robert "Fritz" Eagle Simmon and Isaac "Ike" Eagle Simmon both of St. Louis; and her sister, Alexa Winfrey, Bluff City, Tenn.  She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
