Florenza Conicella McClay, 63, of Rock Island passed away Tuesday March 21, 2017 at her home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Rock Island. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island. Visitation will be 4 pm to 6 pm Friday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island, with recitation of the Rosary at 4 pm Friday. Memorials may be made to the family to be designated later.
Florenza was born July 7, 1953 in Italy, a daughter of Joseph "Peppi" and Angiolina "Angie" Conicella. Her family immigrated to Rock Island when she was two. Florenza became a U.S. Citizen on September 26, 1961.
She graduated from Alleman High School in 1971 and then graduated from business college.
She married Bruce W. McClay in 1992 in Rock Island. In earlier years, she worked at the Rock Island Arsenal. She later worked at Kmart in Sarasota, FL and Rock Island.
In her younger years, she attended St. Mary Catholic Church, Rock Island. She enjoyed writing poetry.
Surviving are her husband, Bruce, of Rock Island; parents, Peppi and Angie Conicella, Rock Island; sister and brother-in-law, Debby and Wayne Norton, Columbia, SC; brother, Robert Conicella, Des Moines, IA; nephew and niece, Trey and Melissa Norton; aunts, Rosa Steinbaugh, Rock Island and Lisa Carlton, Huntsville, AL; uncle, Frank Conicella, and his wife Ida, Ardmore, PA; cousins, Anthony Steinbaugh, Maria Steinbaugh, Ed Carlton, David Carlton, Donald Carlton, Nick Conicella and Gabriella Conicella; and additional family.
Florenza was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Giulia and Giuseppe "Joe" Conicella; paternal grandparents, Nick and Florence Conicella; and her son, Michael, in infancy.
