Obituary

Frances Ann (Slaymaker) Johnson (90) joined her heavenly family on May 26, 2025, surrounded by the love of her earthly family.

Services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1330 13th St., Moline, IL 61265, on Saturday, May 31, 2025. There will be a visitation at 10:00 AM, a service at 11:00 AM, and a lunch to follow in Trinity's Fellowship Hall.

Frances was born in Erie, IL on September 3, 1934. She grew up on the family farm and graduated from Erie High School in 1952. She graduated from Augustana College with a bachelor's degree in 1956. Fran was an accomplished soloist blessing many weddings, funerals, church services and events with her beautiful voice. Fran was a performer, landing the lead role in 'Annie Get Your Gun' while still in college. The post show write ups proclaimed her a 'rising star'. She married Donald Johnson on December 28, 1957. Fran continued performing in Music Guild productions, raising her 5 children, substitute teaching in the Moline School District and working with the Lutheran Hospital Auxiliary.

Fran loved being with family, especially at her happy place Smoky Lake, WI. She was always ready to support her family with a hug, kiss, wink, smile or witty quip. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church for 47 years, singing in the choir and volunteering in many capacities. She was also a member of Pioneer Lake Lutheran Church, Conover, WI.

Fran's unconditional love was felt by her husband of 67 years, Donald Arthur Johnson, children Beth (Larry) Brown, Amy (Lynn) Thomsen, Eric (Stephanie) Johnson, and Steve (Lori) Johnson. Grandchildren: Nathan (Taylor), Kristin (Wes), Emily (Chase), Jacob (Courtney), Sether, Karsten, Bjorn, Bergen and Marta. Great Grandchildren: Clarke, Silas, Avea, Brecken, Cole, Gwyneth, Louisa, Lisette, Corin and Calvin.

Fran was preceded in death by her son Mark, parents Samuel and Martha, brother Joe and sister Mary and her great granddaughter Andy Marie.

Special thanks to Overlook Assisted Living and Memory Care Caregivers and Unity Point Hospice for their exceptional kindness and extraordinary support.

In lieu of flowers, the family would suggest sending memorials to the Donald A. and Frances Slaymaker Johnson Scholarship, supporting aspiring teachers, at Augustana College.
