Frances Irene Martin, 81, of East Moline, formerly of Rock Island, died Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline. Visitation will be from 2:30 - 5 p.m. Sunday with a Rosary recited at 2 p.m. at the Knox Chapel of Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 2106 7th Avenue, Rock Island. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 1 p.m. Monday at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. Burial will be at Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Memorials may be made in care of St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island, or to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
Frances was born on January 14, 1935 in New Boston, Ill., a daughter of Bruce and Ethel Beard Hockenberry. She married Alvin Martin on April 4, 1952 in Camp Cook, California.
Frances worked for Epic Foods at the John Deere Administrative Center for about 12 years. She also spent much of her time as a homemaker.
Frances was a member at St. Pius X Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary, both of Rock Island. She loved being extremely active in her families lives. She especially enjoyed all of the grandchildren. Frances and Alvin enjoyed spending their summers in Bagley, Wisconsin and wintering for 18 years in Florida. Frances also became a Cubs fan in her later years.
Survivors include her husband, Alvin Martin, East Moline; children (and spouses), Rick (Kathee) Martin, Hickory, N.C., Cindy Crawford, Rock Island, Deborah (Michael Green) Carlson, Chandler, Ariz., Michelle (Ed) Vize, Moline, Bradley (Becky) Martin, Batavia, Ill. and Jennifer (Jeff) Wendland, Rock Island ; grandchildren, Lynn (Aaron) Justinger, Luke (Courtney) Martin, Brett (Sandra) Martin, Michael (Amy) Crawford, Joe (Christine Lehigh) Crawford, Jake (Christina) Crawford, Gregory (Kyra) Carlson, Ed (Kathy) Vize, Eric Vize, Sarah (Randy) Stevens, Allyson Martin, Alexander (Samantha) Martin, Patrick Martin, Scott (Tara Hahn) Wendland and Meaghan (Ben) Jackson; 18 great-grandchildren; a brother, Richard Hockenberry, Viola, Ill.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Mary, Bonnie, Annabelle, Bill, Jerry and Tom.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff's at Hope Creek Care Center, Genesis Hospital - Illini Campus and Genesis Hospice for all of the generous care they extended to Frances in her time with them.
