Frances J. Holtzer, 98, of Rock Island died at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at Saint Anthony's Continuing Care Center in Rock Island.
Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island, with visitation one hour prior to services. Inurnment will be at a later date at Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island.
Frances was born September 11, 1918 in Rock Island, Ill., the daughter of Phillip and Josephine Maro. She married Fred Holtzer on November 11, 1939 in Davenport, Iowa. He died on April 24, 1980.
Frances was employed by McCabe's Department Store in Rock Island for 23 years retiring in 1984. She was a long time member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Rock Island.
Frances was a very caring person and always enjoyed the company of others. She enjoyed cooking, reading the daily newspaper, politics, dancing (especially at The Col Ballroom in Davenport back in the day), playing bingo, and visiting with family and friends. Frances believed in the power of prayer and often told people that she would say a prayer for them when they were in need.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church in Rock Island.
Survivors include a daughter, Barbara (Jim) Ryckaert of Taylor Ridge, three grandchildren, Greg (Tammy) Ryckaert of Moline, Jeff (Jennifer) Ryckaert of West Dundee, Ill., Michael (Lisa) Ryckaert of Taylor Ridge, 9 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild, nephews David Kelly of Wheaton, Ill., Nick Maro of East Moline, Mike Criswell of East Moline, and niece Jodie Bayne of Rock Island.
Frances was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Elinor, Anna, Josephine, Mary, and Camille and a brother Nick.
