Francis R. Mack, 91, of Reynolds, died Thursday, May 12, 2016 at his home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am Monday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Andalusia. Visitation is 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Reynolds, where a rosary will be recited at 1:30 p.m. Burial is at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Preemption Township, where military honors will be presented. Memorials may be made to St. Patrick Catholic Church, or to Immaculate Conception School, Monmouth.
Francis Raymond Mack was born Jan. 21, 1925 in Preemption, a son of Michael and Ethel Wheelan Mack. He married Donna M. Farwell on July 27, 1951 at St. Catherine's Catholic Church, Aledo.
He farmed for many years in the Reynolds and Preemption area. Francis retired as Postmaster in Preemption after 30 years of postal service.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Francis participated in an Honor Flight in 2012. He was a charter member of the Rock Island Postal Credit Union Board of Directors, member of the Reynolds Phone Company Board of Directors, American Legion Post 1166, Reynolds and St. Patrick Catholic Church, Andalusia. Francis received the Good Neighbor of the Year award in 1963 from the Rock Island County Fair Association. He was proud of his Irish heritage and loved to play cards, especially bridge. Francis had no greater joy than watching his grandson, John, play baseball, and of course, the Chicago Cubs.
Survivors include his wife, Donna; son, Rev. Msgr. Thomas Mack, Monmouth; daughters, Connie McKinley, Rock Island, Carol (Jason) Lewis, Rock Island, and Lori (Don) Estep, Hope Mills, N.C.; grandchildren, Angela (Ed) Hubbard, Amanda (Jeff) Pickett, Kathleen Estep, and John Patrick Wagle; and great-grandchildren, Zachary, Trevor, Raleigh and Easton. He was preceded in death by his parents; nine siblings; and son-in-law, Paul McKinley.
