IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Francis "Frank"
R. Adlfinger
October 6, 1933 – May 11, 2024
Francis "Frank" R. Adlfinger, 90, Milan, died Saturday, May 11, 2024 at Trinity, Rock Island. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am Friday, May 17, 2024 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. Visitation is Thursday, May 16, 2024 from 4:00 to 6:30 pm with a rosary recited at 6:30 pm at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island. Burial will take place at Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island, where military honors will be presented. Memorials may be made to St. Pius X Catholic Church or Alleman High School.
Frank was born in Rock Island, Illinois on October 6, 1933, son of Harry and Mary Kimball Adlfinger. He was proud to be part of the second graduating class from Alleman High School in 1951. He earned his bachelor's degree from St. Ambrose University, Davenport. Frank was a U.S. Navy veteran.
Frank married Nancy Carr on January 27, 1962 at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Davenport.
He worked as an electrical engineer for both AMETEK and the Rock Island Arsenal, retiring in 1992. He then happily spent the next 32 years working alongside his son, Matt, at Adlfinger Landscaping, last working on Thursday, May 9.
Frank was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. He had a quiet, yet very strong faith. He loved his family above all, adored his grandchildren, and was thrilled to be a great-grandpa. He enjoyed the simple things: sitting in the sun, driving the tractor, puttering around the farm, and watching Jeopardy then praying the rosary every afternoon with Nancy. He especially enjoyed talking books, sports, and home improvement projects with Tom, riding along with Matt every day, traveling to visit Anne in every city she lived, antiquing with Paul on Saturdays, and playing the Adlfinger family's special homemade board game every Sunday at Katherine's house.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 62 years, Nancy Adlfinger, Milan; children, Tom (Kim) Adlfinger, Rock Island, Matt (Doreen) Adlfinger, Milan, Anne (Brad) Thilges, Auburn, CA, Paul Adlfinger, Rock Island and Katherine Moens, Rock Island; grandchildren, Mary (Ty) Balduf, Ethan (Emily) Adlfinger, Lucy Adlfinger, Peter Moens, David Moens and Jon Moens; great-grandchildren, Sadie Balduf and William Adlfinger; and sister, Joan Freed, Rock Island.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Gerry Padakis and brother, Vern Adlfinger.
