Frank Brooks, 89, of Moline and formerly Rock Island, was reunited with his wife, Joanna, in Heaven on Thursday, March 31st. Visitation will be 2:00-4:00pm Sunday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home in Rock Island. A celebration of life service will begin at 10:00am Monday, April 4, at South Park Presbyterian Church in Rock Island, followed by interment at Greenview Memorial Gardens in East Moline. A luncheon will follow the interment at South Park Church at 12:30pm.
Frank was born May 16, 1926 to William Darwin and Bessie Alice Brooks in Industry, Illinois. He was married to Joanna Brooks for 66 years before her passing in October, 2015. A graduate of Rock Island High School, he served honorably in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He received a Bachelor's Degree in Education from Western Illinois University and a Master's of Education degree from the University of Illinois. He taught for 13 years in East Moline District 35 and at Franciscan Hospital School of Nursing. He left teaching to work for Illinois School Consulting Services for two years in Naperville, Illinois. He finished his education career as a Principal for 18 years in Rock Island.
Frank was an active member of South Park Presbyterian Church serving as a Trustee, Elder, Chairman of the Staff, Finance and Stewardship Committees. He served on the United Way and Arrowhead Ranch Boards of Directors and fund drives.
Those honored to carry on his memory include his five children and their spouses, Mark (Marta) Brooks, Bettendorf, Terry (Dan) Goldstein, Moline, Susie (John) Bicek, Naperville, IL, Mary (Rick) Lyons, Holland, MI and Scott (Heidi) Brooks, Jacksonville, NC; 11 grandchildren and their spouses: Lindsay (Adam) Smith, Leslie (Jason) Pock, Kate Goldstein, Andrew and David Brooks, J.C., Frankie and Mark Bicek, Sean, Brandon and Ryan Brooks; and four great-grandchildren, Liam, Corbin and Paxton Smith, and Coen Pock. He was preceded in death by, sisters Doris Finch Woodward, Lillian Louise Burnett, Mable Jean Courter and his wife, Joanna.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Frank's name to South Park Presbyterian Church Christian Education Fund or Rock Island Milan Schools Education Foundation.
