Fred Macklin, 74, Rock Island, IL passed away on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at Generations in Rock Island after a long battle with LBD. Private services will be held. Memorials may be made to the family.

Fred was born on February 10, 1949 to Michie (Furukawa) and Edward Junior Macklin in Tokyo, Japan and the family moved to the United States when he was eight. After high school, Fred served in the United States Army and was wounded in Vietnam.

Following his discharge from the service, Fred started his 40-year janitorial career. He owned and operated his own business for a time, and also worked as a custodian for various businesses until COVID caused his retirement.

Fred loved to gamble and was known as a kind and loving man. He loved his family. He was a hero to us.

He is greatly missed by his significant other, Cathy Raney; brothers, John and Steve Macklin; niece, Monica Sanchez; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sibling.
