Frederick R. Sparks, Sr., 77, of Rock Island, passed away on Sunday, June 19, 2016 at his home.  Cremation rites have been accorded and private family services will be held at a later date.  Memorials may be made in care of the family.  Wheelan Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island is assisting the family.

Frederick Ray Sparks was born on October 15, 1938 in Hannibal, MO, the son of Lewis and Irene Herring Sparks.  Frederick proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps.  He married Sharon Lynne Minnich on August 9, 1958 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Moline.  She passed away on April 27, 2011.  He worked as a union pipefitter for UA Local 25 in Rock Island, retiring in 2000.  Fred was a gifted mechanic and welder.  He was also an avid duck hunter, deer hunter and all around outdoorsman.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, Lewis (Kym) Sparks II, Lakeland, FL, Frederick R. "Pete" Sparks, Jr., Rock Island and Lynne Sparks, Rock Island; grandchildren, Fred Sparks III, Moline, Dr. Jesse (Omid Keshtkar) Sparks, E. Lawrenceville, N.J. and Jamie Sparks, Rock Island; and a great granddaughter, Alexis McClay

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and a sister, Norma Tollenaer
