December 10, 1931 – December 13, 2018
Frederick James Whitcomb, 87, of Rock Island, peacefully went home to be with the Lord while surrounded by family on Thursday, December 13, 2018. Services will be 10 am Monday at the Word of Life Christian Center, Rock Island. Visitation will be Sunday from 2-5 pm at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials to a charity of your choice.
Frederick was born on December 10, 1931 in Barrington, Ill., a son of Frederick and Sena Kromminga Whitcomb. He married the love of his life, Jeanne M. Hart on January 14, 1950 in Princeton, Iowa. She preceded him in death on January 18, 2006.
Frederick worked as a shipping clerk for 33 years at John Deere Plow and Planter.
He was a member of Word of Life Christian Center and loved spending time with his kids and grandkids.
Frederick enjoyed many hobbies over the years including gardening, stamp collecting and raising fish. He had a passion for genealogy and was a fine carpenter. In his spare time, he could always be found in the barn tinkering or building something.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children (and spouses), Richard (Amy) Whitcomb, Dennis (Jean) Whitcomb, James (Regina) Whitcomb, Pamela Hammond, Jeff (Connie) Whitcomb, Roxanne (Girard) Carns, Shelley (Robert) Williams, Karen Whitcomb and Brenda Whitcomb, all of Rock Island; 22 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and brothers, Edward (Doris) Whitcomb, Arizona and Robert Whitcomb, Bettendorf.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, son, Danny Jo Whitcomb, great-granddaughter, McKenzie Kent, brother, Bruce Whitcomb, son-in-law, Gary Hammond and daughter-in-law, Lois Whitcomb.
The family would like to thank Hospice Compassus, especially Shawna and Liz for their compassionate care.
