Obituary

Garnet F. McKay, 95, of Rock Island, IL passed away Monday, October 31, 2016 at Rosewood Care Center, Moline, with her son and daughter at her side.  Per her wishes cremation rites will be accorded.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, November 11, 2016 at Memorial Park Cemetery, Rock Island.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Quad City Animal Welfare Center, Milan in her memory.  Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Garnet was born on December 23, 1920 in Washington Township, IA, the daughter of Harry L. and Veronica "Vera" (Eberle) Gallentine.  She married Charles O. McKay in 1946 in Sheldon, IA.  Garnet graduated in 1938 from Van Cleve High School in a class of 13 students.  When she was younger she worked for McKesson Corporation, during her middle years she was a homemaker, and the years before retirement she worked at the Rock Island Post Office.  Garnet had a great love for animals and children all her life, and was a dedicated Cubs fan.

Garnet is survived by her children, Richard D. (Margaret) McKay, Bettendorf, Marilyn (Kent) Sulouff, Rock Island, Gary L. (Patricia) McKay, Virginia City, MT, and Darrell W. (Roberta) McKay, Ennis, MT; grandchildren, Robby (Gina) McKay, CA, Jeffrey (Victoria) McKay, Eldridge, IA, Thomas (Mandy) McKay, Kansas City, MO, Adam (Krista) Sulouff, Rock Island, Joseph (Shauntelle) McKay, Bozeman, MT, Mandy (Alan) DeWit, Bozeman, MT, Samantha McKay, Australia, Patrick McKay, Austin, TX, and Katie McKay, Helena, MT; great grandchildren, Andrew, Austin, Abby, Alex, Adam, Gabriel, Morgan, Autumn, Aria, Andrew, Eric, Aaron, Akasha, Rozalyn, Avery, and Macy; brother, Maynard Gallentine; sister, Beth (William) Gilgen; and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; parents; brothers, Vern, Dale, and Max Gallentine; sister, Arlene Gallentine; sister-in-law, Eileen Gallentine; and great granddaughter, Brooks McKay.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Rosewood and Heartland Hospice for Garnet's care.
