Gary M. Peterson, 73, of Milan, died Monday, December 5, 2016 at UnityPoint Health - Trinity Rock Island.  Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Reynolds.  Visitation will be Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home.  Cremation rites will follow services.  Memorials may be made in care of the National Parkinson's Foundation.

Gary was born in Moline on January 27, 1943,  a son of Robert E. and Helen L. Dunlap Peterson.  He married Diane McGinnis on September 19, 1965 at the Reynolds United Methodist Church.

In Gary's earlier years he owned and operated his own painting business called, Peterson-Bowers Paint Company.  He would later become a paint supervisor for J.I Case in Bettendorf and retire from Woods Equipment Company in Oregon, Ill. after 20 years of service.

Gary was a member of the Reynolds United Methodist Church, Buffalo Prairie Masonic Lodge No. 679 AF & AM and the Reynolds American Legion Post No. 1166.  Gary enjoyed doing yard work, fireworks and was considered an all around handyman.  He especially enjoyed his yearly vacations with family and friends to Daytona Beach, Fla.

Survivors include his wife, Diane Peterson, Milan; children (and spouses), Torri (Sean) Randolph, Matherville, Ill., Todd (Sashel) Peterson, Las Vegas, Nev. and Tessa (Rob) Workman, Rochelle, Ill.; grandchildren, Alisa, Tarran, Taegan, Tatum, Avery, Isabella, Jace, Mark, Cale and Bane;  mother, Helen Peterson, Reynolds; sister, LaJune Lindberg, Rock Island; and his best friend, Sophie, the yellow lab.

He was preceded in death by his father and grandson, Logan Pearson.
