George Everett Atkinson, 77 of Harlingen, Texas, formerly of Rock Island, Illinois, passed away on November 28, 2021.

Memorial Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, April 23, 2022, at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island. Visitation will be from 12 (noon) to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Inurnment will follow in Rock Island Memorial Park Cemetery.

George was born in Moline on November 1, 1944 to Everett and Helen (Bartholomew) Atkinson. A 1962 graduate of Rock Island High School, George retired from the Rock Island Police Department after 20 years. He was a 50+ year member of Masonic Trio Lodge 57. He enjoyed biking and running, was a member of Cornbelt Running Club, and a founding member of Rock River Striders Running Club. He loved motorcycle riding, especially with close friends. After RVing full time, he settled in Harlingen.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sandra (Freebeck) Atkinson, sons Jeff, Scott (Libby), and Gerrold (Carol), eight grandchildren, one great grandson, and sisters Kay Niemann and Lynn (Jim) Cimfel.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son Gregory and his best friend, Art Scott.
