Obituary

George Dimitroff, 92, of Milan, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his children.

In accordance with his wishes, there will be no local services. Graveside services will be held at a later date at Oak Hill Cemetery in Coon Rapids, Iowa. Memorials may be made to the Quad City Animal Welfare Center in Milan.

George was born on May 23, 1933, in Dedham, Iowa, the son of George and Anna (Dumas) Dimitroff. Following high school, he proudly served in the United States Marine Corps. He married Mabel Melissa Hart on June 16, 1957, at The Little Brown Church in the Vale in Nashua, Iowa. They shared over 67 years of marriage until her passing on April 1, 2025.

George worked as a baker and machine operator at Lucille’s Pie Shop for 22 years and later at Harvest Day Bakery for 19 years, retiring in 1998.

He found great joy in the outdoors, whether camping, tending to his home and yard, or riding his motorcycles—one of his favorite pastimes. In retirement, George remained active and dedicated his time to volunteering around the Milan area, offering his skills as a handyman to local churches, friends, and family.

He is survived by his children, Pamela (Jamie) Frew of Sherrard and Daniel (Tamme) Dimitroff of East Peoria; and his grandchildren, Whittni McKinley, Tala Dimitroff, and Mara Dimitroff.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Anna; his sisters, Rosemay Reese, Christina Erickson, Kathryn Garnes; and an infant sister, Margaret.
