George R. Kos, 89, of Rock Island, passed away on Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at the Heartland Health Care Center, Moline. Services for Mr. Kos will be 10:30 am, Thursday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island. There will be no visitation. Burial will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted by the Moline American Legion Post No. 246.Memorials may be made to Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Moline.

George was born on January 21, 1926 in Chicago, a son of George and Rose Simon Kos. He married Margaret Vavricek on September 13, 1947 in Cicero. She preceded him in death on October 10, 1988. George was an architectural draftsman for Shipley and Associates, Elmhurst, Illinois, retiring in 1988. He was member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Moline. George enjoyed playing cards, woodworking, and spending time with his great nieces and a great nephew.

Survivors include his nieces, Cindy Ward and her fiancé, Vern Bass, Golden, Co., and Susan Piatak, and her husband, Steve Piatak, Davenport; great nieces, Allison (Nick) Lasure, Jennifer Piatak; a great nephew, Matthew (Missy) Ward; a brother in law, Anton "Tony" Kolinger, Rock Island; and special friends, Joe and Cherie Payne and family, Rock Island.

George was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Margaret; brother, Art; a sister, Mildred; and a sister in law, LaVerne Kolinger.
