George J. Van Getson, 84, of Milan, passed away Tuesday, March 7, 2017 with his family by his side in Rock Island.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Milan.  Visitation will be from 4 PM to 7 PM on Friday, March 10, 2017 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 201 E. 4th Ave., Milan, with a recitation of the rosary at 3:30 PM.  Burial will be at St. John's Cemetery, Viola.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Milan or St. John's Cemetery, Viola.

George was born on December 16, 1932 in Moline, the son of Edward and Victoria (Schrack) Van Getson.  He married Carmella Slavish on December 27, 1958 in Aledo.  George owned and operated Van Getson Excavating for over forty years.  He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

George is survived by his wife of 58 years, Carmella Van Getson, Milan; children, Theresa (David) Lindner, Flower Mound, TX, Butch (Karen) Van Getson, Dripping Springs, TX, and Jeffrey Van Getson, Van Nuys, CA; grandchildren, Emily, Ryan, and Luke Van Getson; sisters, Delores Lulow , Hastings, MN, and Barbara (Donald) Loving, Aledo.  He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Edward and Leonard Van Getson.
