George C. Williams, 91, of Rock Island, passed away on Thursday, March 17, 2016 at St. Anthony's Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Rock Island. Services for Mr. Williams will be 10 am, Wednesday at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 - 7 pm, at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home & Crematory, Rock Island, where a rosary will be recited at 4 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline, where military honors will be conducted. Memorials may be made to ARC of The Quad Cities.
George was born on July 12, 1924 in Clinton, Iowa, a son of George Williams and Clara Sorensen Williams. He married Louise Dyer on May 3, 1947 in Clinton. She preceded him in death on February 21, 2009. Mr. Williams worked as the warehouse manager at Lerch & Thonn, Inc., Rock Island for many years. He was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island, Allouez Council No. 658 of the Knights of Columbus, Rock Island, the Moline American Legion Post No 246. George enjoyed golfing, playing cards, and was always there for his family. He was a avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and Chicago Cubs fan. Mr. William was a U.S. Navy veteran.
Survivors include his children, Regina (Ernest) Donaway, Rock Island, Cheryl Bobb (Troy Wilkinson), East Moline, and Claire (Phillip) Ekstrom, Monticello, MN.; grandchildren, Brian (Jamie) Donaway, Matthew Donaway, Eric Donaway, Heather (Don) Griener, Tina (Bob) Hantz, Shari (Tim) Thompson, Wendi (Tim) DeFauw, Elaina (Chris) Wallin, Richard Ekstrom, Robert (Nicole) Ekstrom, Rodney (Jennifer) Ekstrom, and Ryan (Jen) Ekstrom; 30 great grandchildren; three great- great grandchildren; sisters, Jacqueline Bostock, Clinton, Marietta (Tom) Daehler, Avon, IN.
George was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Louise; granddaughter, Renae Ekstrom; and a sister, Frances Milder. Online condolences may be left for the family at wheelanpressly.com
