Obituary

Georgerine K. Eckert, 65, Milan, IL passed away Monday, October 2, 2023 at UnityPoint-Trinity Hospital, Rock Island. Visitation will be from 9-10:00 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial following at 10:00 AM Friday, October 6, 2023 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. Interment at Calvary Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the church or Gift of Hope.

Georgerine was born August 1, 1958 to Carl and Mabel (Bierman) Ebert in Chester, IL. After her mother's passing, she was raised by her father and her uncle and aunt, George and Nellie Bierman. Following her graduation from Chester High School, Georgerine then attended Augustana where she earned a Bachelor's degree.

On August 23, 1986 she was united in marriage to Tim Eckert. The couple made their home in Milan where they raised their two children.

Georgerine worked for many years as a CNA at Friendship Manor. She then worked for St. Mary's Monastery until her retirement.

Georgerine was a very active member of St. Pius X Catholic Church for 37 years. She was involved with retreats, the Adoration Chapel, vocation committee, and often served as a lector. SPEC, Special Persons Encounter Christ, was another organization where she spent a lot of time. Georgerine's life revolved around the three pillars—church, family, and community. Even after death, she was still helping others, choosing to graciously donate her organs giving the gift of life to others in need.

Georgerine will be greatly missed by her husband, Tim; children, Andrew and Jennifer Eckert; special cousin, Diane (Jeff) Kerkhover; brothers-in-law, Kevin Eckert, Brion (Patricia) Eckert, and Tracy Eckert; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; uncle and aunt, George and Nellie Bierman; and brother-in-law, Randy Eckert.

Transcribed speech from Georgerine's Honor Walk

10/2/23

Georgerine had one last dying wish: to help others through organ donation. We are here today to help her fulfill this wish by graciously giving others the gift of life.

Georgerine is the wife to Tim, with whom she celebrated 37 years of marriage. She is the loving mother of Andrew and Jennifer, who she and Tim consider to be their greatest accomplishments. She is sister-in-law to Brion and Patty, who she loved dearly, and a friend to many. Georgerine is described as an incredibly loyal and devoted friend.

Outside of the love she had for her family and friends, the three major pillars in her life were church, community and healthcare. She and Time have been members of St. Pius Church for 37 years together, where she is very invested in retreats, the Adoration Chapel, and her devotion to Our Blessed Mother, Mary.

Georgerine and Tim and both have careers in healthcare, of which they are very proud. Therefore, it is only natural that she held such a high regard for organ donation. Her acts of goodwill and charity will continue even now at the end of her life on earth, and she wouldn't have it any other way. Georgerine's final prayer to her late mother (who passed when Georgerine was only 7) was that she hoped she was proud of the person she had become. Today she will make her entire family proud, and meet her mother again in heaven.
