Gerald L. Baker, 85, of Davenport, passed away Saturday, February 14, 2015 at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus, Davenport.
Services will be 6:00 p.m. Thursday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 201 E. 4th Ave., Milan, with visitation one hour prior to services. Inurnment will be at a later date. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Gerald was born September 3, 1929 in Sullivan County, near Green City, MO, a son of Herman and Cecile Baker. He married Mary E. Webster on July 12, 1952 in Rock Island.
Gerald worked at Servus Rubber, Rock Island, for 22 years. He then worked at John Deere for over 15 years before retiring. In 1988, he and Mary moved to Hardy, AR, where they built a home. They lived in Arkansas for 20 years until moving to Davenport to be near family.
He loved spending time with family and friends, fishing, reading, and watching TV. He was a talented handyman and craftsman.
Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Mary E. Baker, Davenport; sons, Jeff Baker, Iowa City, IA, and Dan Baker, and his wife, Tina, of Milan; grandchildren, Bryan and Adam Baker, Heather Rubingh, Amanda Herbers, Alesha Stallings, Thomas, Steven, and Savannah Dillie, and Ryan Baker; great-grandchildren, Amelia, Cecelia, Adam, Caiden, Giovanni, Lucas, Olivia, Ella, Ava, Anthony, Rosalie, Jerry, Morgan and Alex; brothers, Garry Baker, Indiana, Dwight Baker, Colorado and Kenneth Baker, Milan; sisters, Rosalee Young-Lopez, Arkansas, Ramah Steininger, Pennsylvania, and Doris Chenoweth, Alabama; numerous nieces and nephews; and former daughter-in-law, Judy Baker, Davenport.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, David Brian Baker and Steven Leon Baker; and two great-grandchildren, Matthew Reyes, Jr. and Aaron Stallings.
