Gerald L. Unzel, 84, of East Moline, passed away on Tuesday, August 4, 2026.

 A memorial visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Monday, August 10, 2026, at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island. Inurnment will be in Rock Island Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be left in care of the family. 

Gerald was born on October 3, 1941, in Rock Island, IL, a son of Eugene and Naomi (Shoemaker) Unzel. He graduated from Rock Island High School and went on to work at his parent's service station, Gene's Standard, later known as Gene's Mobil, in downtown Rock Island. In 1965, Gerald began his career with the Rock Island Fire Department. He proudly served Rock Island for 28 years before retiring. Gerald often spent his days off continuing to help at the service station until his parents retirement on October 30, 1976. 

Gerald enjoyed spending time with friends and family. He would often be caught reminiscing and telling stories about his time as a firefighter. 

Those left to cherish Gerald's memory include his wife, Maurine Unzel; son, Steve (Dawn) Unzel; grandson, Joseph (Katie) Unzel; great-granddaughter and light of his life, Evelyn Unzel; brother, Richard Unzel; and sister-in-law, Berniece Unzel. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Michael and Tommy Unzel; and brother, Merle Unzel.
