Geraldine I. Towner, 95, a resident of Crest Health Center, Davenport, formerly of Milan, died Saturday, April 19, 2014 at the health center.Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Koning Chapel at Ridgecrest Retirement Village, Davenport. Burial will be at Chippiannock Cemetery, Rock Island. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Ridgecrest Foundation.

Geraldine I. Mann was born Oct. 27, 1918 in Rock Island, a daughter of William and Rae Ingold Mann. She married Alfred L. Towner in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He preceded her in death on Jan. 31, 1993.

Mrs. Towner served as the National President of Royal Neighbors of America and retired in 1983 after 40 years of service with RNA.

She served in many capacities within the community, including former membership on the Augustana College board of directors, past chairman of the Quad-Cities American Red Cross, past president of the National Fraternal Congress of America, past member of the Western Illinois University Advisory Board, Downtown Rock Island Development Council, Rock Island Salvation Army board of directors, Rock Island Community Foundation board of directors and only woman past president of the Rock Island Chamber of Commerce. Mrs. Towner had also served on the board of directors of The Rock Island Bank, Milan/Blackhawk Township Library District board of directors, St. Anthony's Continuing Care Center board of directors, served on numerous fund raising projects in the Quad-Cities and was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Davenport.

Mrs. Towner was recognized by Who's Who in the Midwest and The World Who's Who of Women. She was most proud of receiving an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from Augustana College.

Survivors include nieces, nephews and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters, Wilma Wolfe and Ethel Smith; brother, Richard Mann; and dear friend, Patricia Timm.
