Gilbert H. Norris, 95, formerly of Rock Island, IL, died Sunday, January 19, 2025, at The Fountains Assisted Living Facility, Bettendorf, IA. A private inurnment, with miliary salute, was held at the Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island, Rock Island, IL. Memorials may be made in Gilbert's name to any animal shelter of choice.

Gilbert was born May 13, 1929, in Manchester, New Hampshire. He married Geraldine M. Smith, June 16, 1951, in Marion, IA. He graduated from Iowa State University, Ames, IA. He was proud to serve in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War.

He spent most of his career working for the City of Rock Island as the City Health Inspector. After retirement, Gil and Gerry traveled the world. He enjoyed scuba diving, photography, and collecting fossils. He co-founded the Mid-American Paleontology Society (M.A.P.S.). He was a member of the Hilltop Toastmaster Club where he volunteered for 20 years. He won many awards from the Toastmasters Club and was most proud of the accomplishments achieved working with the inmates at the East Moline Correctional Center. Gil was an active member of Hope United Church of Christ.

Gil was an avid animal lover, especially dogs. He loved spending time with his family. The last few years of his life were spent at The Fountains in Bettendorf, IA. Our family would like to thank the entire staff for the great care they gave to Dad, as well as the St. Croix Hospice staff, and Pastor Santina Poor, Hope United Church of Christ.

Survivors include his children, Allan Norris (Rock Island, IL), Bruce (Shelli) Norris (Rock Island, IL), Ann (Thomas) Price; Grandchildren Sarah Stephens, Zachary (Kim) Norris, Erika Norris, Claire Price. Great Grandchildren Olivia & Sophia Stephens, Annalise & Natalie Norris – Great Papa's angels.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine, sister Helen, and his parents.
