Guadalupe "Lupe" F. Vasquez, 84, of Rock Island, passed away Saturday November 5, 2016 at UnityPoint-Trinity, Rock Island.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Milan, IL. Burial will be at National Cemetery Arsenal Island. Visitation will be 4:00 pm to 7:00pm Wednesday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 201 E. 4th Ave., Milan, where a Rosary will be recited at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday. Memorials may be made to the family.
Guadalupe was born June 25, 1932 in Corpus Christi, Texas, a daughter of Pedro, Sr. and Amparo Flores. She attended school in Sinton, Texas. Guadalupe and Ramon M. Vasquez were united in marriage on December 1, 1951 in Sinton,Texas. Ramon and Lupe renewed their vows at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Rock Island on December 1, 1976. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with church services again. They were together 64 years, Mr. Vasquez preceded his wife in death on September 5, 2015.
Lupe worked at St. Anthony's Care Center, Rock Island, in 1966-67. She went on to become a seamstress for about 22 years at Seaford Clothing in Rock Island, where she made many friends. Amongst whom were her compadres Juan and Lilia Trevino, Pedro and Rosa Lara, and other compadres by which they had goddaughters and godsons.
Lupe was known for her family care and providing to them. She loved to dance and attend church gatherings, weddings, and receptions; where she was always seen helping out.
Lupe left us to her rest surrounded by family and friends. She suffered much pain, but wanted to stay at home. She was attended by her son, David, day and night, also with help from a very special friends/caregivers, "Ana", Mayela, and Bertha. Her neighbors were very helpful too.
She loved her family and friends. Mary Briebriesco was like a sister to her, among others to include Maria Antu, Lupe Balli, Sylvia, Elenita and especially, Bertha Campeon, and numerous others who often cared for her. She will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her sons, David and Oscar, and all her family and friends.
Those left behind to cherish her memory are her sons, Oscar Vasquez, Coldwater, Mich. and David Vasquez, Rock Island; grandchildren, Lance (Cheryl) Vasquez and Lorrie Mickels; great-grandchildren, Christina Vasquez, Gabriela Vasquez, Andrew Vasquez, Destiny Vasquez, Keionia Vasquez and Laurisa Vasquez; siblings, Amelia Montelongo, Plano, Tex., Pedro Flores, Jr., Chicago, IL, and Julia Mejia, Phoenix, Ariz.; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family.
Guadalupe was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
