Obituary

Hal J. Lester, 89, of Sherrard, IL, passed away Monday May 4, 2015 at Heartland Health Care Center, Moline.
Services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 201 E. 4th Ave., Milan, where visitation will be one hour prior to services. Burial will be at Preemption Cemetery, Preemption, IL. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Hal was born December 6, 1925 in Wyoming, IL, a son of Gaines and Gladys (Abbott) Lester. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He married Marvel M. Spengler on April 10, 1992 in Sherrard, IL. She preceded him in death on June 29, 2006.
He was a truck driver at the former Davenport-Pak, then at Anderson & Mandle Grain Co., and lastly at IBP. Hal was a member of Cable Community Church, Reynolds American Legion, and Moline Lodge 1014, AF & AM, for over 50 years.
He was a ham radio enthusiast and talented woodworker. He also enjoyed flying radio controlled airplanes. Hal had served as a Lay Minister for over 30 years at several area churches.
Surviving are his children (and spouses); Robert "Bob" (Sharon) Lester, Rock Island, Connie (James) McKelvey, Cartersville, GA, and Deanna (Mike) Rucktashell, French Lick, IN; five grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Hal was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and two brothers, Thomas and Everett.
