Harold C. Hemphill, 90, of Milan, passed away Tuesday April 15, 2014 at Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline.Funeral services will be 10:00am Monday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Milan. Visitation will be from 3:00-5:00pm Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery, with Military Honors. Memorials may be left to Quad City Animal Welfare Center, Milan.
Harold was born on March 14, 1924 in Winnfield, Louisiana, the son of Thomas and Edith (Guin) Hemphill. He married Edith Johnson Cavin on May 11, 1951 in Moline.
Mr. Hemphill had been employed as a backhoe operator for Valley Construction and previously worked for J.L. Brady.
Harold was a United States Army Veteran having served in WWII. He was also very proud to have been on the first Honor Flight.
He was a 32nd Degree Mason of the Masonic Temple Scottish Rite, Valley of Moline. Harold loved wildlife, animals, gardening and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Edith; children and spouses, Linda Anderson, Milan, Brenda (Greg) Krause, Colorado Springs, CO., David (Mary) Hemphill, Estes Park, CO; grandchildren, Darrin (Jodi) Flynn, Chadwick, IL, James (Tina) Flynn, Fargo, ND, Carrie Anderson, Milan, Ashley Frutiger, Portland, OR; 8 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandsons.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, a infant daughter, two brothers and a sister.
The family would also like to thank Hope Creek and Hospice Compassus for all the care, comfort and compassion they gave our Husband, Father and Grandfather. We truly appreciate it.
