Harold Newenham, 92, of Rock Island, passed away peacefully at home, December 14, 2024.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 19, 2024, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. Visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 18th at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 Seventh Avenue Rock Island, IL. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Alleman High School.

Born October 21, 1932, in Bluffs, Illinois, to Glen Newenham and Maude Stone. He married Agnes Finn at Sacred Heart Church, Rock Island, IL.

Harold was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island and the Knights of Columbus Allouez 658. Harold graduated from East Moline High School (1951) and served in the U.S. Army Military Police (1952–54).

He was proud member of the IBEW, and was employed as a communications technician at Illinois Bell, AT&T, Lucent Technologies and Avaya, until his retirement. He volunteered as a coach and president of the Rock Island Girls Softball Association, as well as an ASA umpire.  He was a member of the Alleman Booster Club and provided phone and electrical support for the Alleman Heritage Ball for many years.

Harold was a fan of the Alleman Pioneers, Chicago Bears and Illinois Fighting Illini. He found joy in his backyard and was a Mulkey's breakfast regular for 40+ years. He enjoyed tackling a good jigsaw puzzle.  Above all, he loved being "Papa" to his grandchildren: Ian, Alex, Libby, Bridget and grand dog Phoebe.

Preceded in death by his parents, brother Kenneth and sisters Wanda Imogene and Karen. Harold is survived by his wife Agnes; brother Ronald; children Lori Ferguson, Lynn (Derek) Chance, Thomas (Mary Jane) Newenham and Timothy Newenham; and grandchildren Ian Ferguson (Bailey), Alex Newenham (Drake Grenier), Libby Chance (Drew Braet) and Bridget Ferguson (Ryan Lewis).
