Harold J. Schaab, 93, of Rock Island, passed away Tuesday, May 19, 2020 at UnityPoint Health – Trinity, Rock Island. Private family services and visitation will be held at Wheelan Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island. A live stream broadcast of the funeral service will be available at 11 a.m on Tuesday, May 26, 2020 at www.wheelanpressly.com/live-stream. Burial will be in Rock Island Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and Illinois Police Benevolent and Protective Association.
Harold was born May 8, 1927 in Rock Island, a son of George H. and Meta (Arp) Schaab. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Following his military service, Harold married Mary K. Cook on February 5, 1949 in Rock Island. Mary passed away on May 2, 2018. Harold worked as a City of Rock Island Police Officer for 21 years, retiring as a Lieutenant. He also worked at John Deere – Davenport Works for an additional 11 years as a security guard. He was a proud member of the Illinois Police Association. Harold enjoyed woodworking, family trips and traveling all over the U.S. He was also a master marksman who enjoyed spending time on the shooting range and catching up with his fellow officers.
Left to honor Harold's memory are his children; Marsha (Russell) Marcellus, Rock Island, Michael J. (Pebbles) Schaab, Rock Island and Marla J. (Larry) Rudsell, Aledo; grandchildren, Lindsay (Teddy) Storm, Katie (Bryan) Kimbrell, Morgan Stoever, Joshua Schaab, Jennifer (Chris) Allison, Katie and JZ Zimmerman; and great-grandchildren, Hayley, Myley, Dusty, Roman, Mila, Cooper and many extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary; son, Mark H. Schaab and brothers, George and Johnnie Schaab.
