Harriett F. Leonard, 88, of Rock Island, passed away on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at Heartland Health Care Center, Moline.  Funeral services for Harriett will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral home.  Burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island.  Memorials may be made in care of Two Rivers United Methodist Church.

Harriett was born on June 11, 1928 in Burlington, Iowa, a daughter of Gerald and Marie McCune Salter.  She married William E. Leonard on July 2, 1950 in Ft. Madison, Iowa.  William passed away on October 11, 1992.  Harriett worked for the Rock Island School Dist. as a Teacher's Aide for over 20 years.  She loved spending time with children and forming young minds.  Harriett was a long time member of First Methodist Church and Two Rivers Methodist Church, Rock Island.  She taught Sunday school for many years and was involved with many church committees.  She was also a member of the Rock Island VFW Women's Auxiliary and the Rock Island Women of the Moose #168, where she served in many roles including Senior Regent.  She also volunteered as a tutor for children through the Doris and Victor Day Foundation.  Harriett greatly enjoyed Wii Bowling, Arts and Crafts, following NASCAR and spending time with family and friends.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters; Susan (Ben) Lorenzen, Blue Grass, Iowa and Diana Bollin, Rock Island; sons; Thomas (Cindy) Leonard, Bettendorf and Michael Leonard, E. Moline; 6 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; sisters, Josephine Waterman and Ellen Salter, along with many nieces, nephews, other loving family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William, her parents and a sister, Geraldine Salter.
