Hazel I. Christensen, 93, of Rock Island, passed away Monday, May 2,
2016 at UnityPoint-Trinity, Rock Island.
Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. and Services will be 12:00 p.m. (noon) Monday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 - 7th Ave., Rock Island.
Burial will be at National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Memorials may be made to the family to be designated later.
Hazel was born August 23, 1922 in Pierre, South Dakota, a
daughter of Otis and Minnie E. Whitney Butler. She graduated from Rock
Island High School. Hazel and Ralph M. Christensen were united in
marriage on August 2, 1941 in Rock Island. He preceded her in death on
November 10, 1994.
Hazel had worked at Servus Rubber, McKesson & Robbins, Strombeck's and
lastly at Brach's Candy in Davenport.
She was an immaculate housekeeper and took great pride in caring for
her home. She collected Goebel and Precious Moment figurines, and Beanie
Babies. Hazel enjoyed walking at the mall, dining out, long drives and
shopping. She was fond of the color purple and was an avid reader,
especially of Mary Higgins Clark novels.
Surviving are her children (and spouses), Joan Jeffery, Rock Island,
Darlene (Dave) Liedtke, Atlantic Beach, FL, David Christensen, Santa
Rosa, CA, and Teresa "Terri" (Andy) Olson, Moline; grandchildren, Larry
Jett, Mike Jett, Jerry Jett, Becky (Pat) Torrance, Kelly (Dave) Pue,
Matthew Olson, and Lindsey Olson (Eric Ostrowski); 22
great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and
nephews.
Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; foster mother, Martha
Giles; grandchildren, John Jett and Lorinda Jett; siblings, Frank,
William, Glenn, Alice and May; son-in-law, Phillip "Bud" Jeffery; and
granddaughter-in-law, Tina Jett.
