IN LOVING MEMORY OF

Hazel

Quinn

April 28, 1944 – November 16, 2022

Obituary

Hazel Quinn was welcomed into this world on April 28, 1944 in Helena, Arkansas to the late Ruby Lee Newell.

As a young lady, Hazel found comfort in the beauty of life and in her love for Jesus Christ.

As a woman of many talents, Hazel gave of her knowledge and skills to the community of Rock Island and beyond in her own way professionally. She worked as an employee of the Seaford Clothing Company for over 30 years where she retired.

Hazel knew there was more to life than work. Life and all its beauty afforded Hazel's heart to be filled with a special tenderness. This tenderness was found in her love for family as she spent countless hours with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her lessons for good living and love for her family overflowed!

While there were many things that Hazel enjoyed about life, there were a few that her heart adored. Hazel enjoyed working in her garden, planting flowers and baking. To taste one of Hazel's desserts would cause anyone who might be in a hurry to sit down for just one more slice or portion of her savoring delights!

Even though tending to her garden gave her a special peace on beautiful days, there was something else that filled her soul with an unspeakable joy—ushering at Second Baptist Church. It was at this place that Hazel was able to render unto God's children an open door into His house where they could experience the love of God which she had come to know. Ushering gave Hazel a sense of urgent responsibility and a source of comfort, as she served from the early 1970's until her health no longer allowed her to continue.

In His love and infinite wisdom, our Heavenly Father sent His angels to bring the soul of Hazel to rest on November 16, 2022.

She leaves to cherish her love and her memory, one son, Bruce Cotton; grandchildren, Breon Cotton (Angel) of Hampton, Georgia, Brandi Hampton of North Carolina, and Erica Cotton of Virginia; eight great-grandchildren; four sisters, Vera Cotton of St. Louis, Missouri, Levance Smith (William) of Matteson, Illinois, Louise Smith (Lemuel) of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, and Violet Wright of Helena, Arkansas, and one brother, Vincent McDowell (Dandemar) of Chesterfield, Virginia; and a host of family and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother, Ruby Newell, son, Winston Shepherd, and sister, Ceola Howard, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Sometimes in life there comes along a friend who no matter what you need, when you need it, and how often you need it, will always be there. Sally Johnson and Mammie Super was this friend for our mother, our grandmother, our matriarch. Our family wishes to thank you, Sally and Mammie, for everything you did for her.

"And he will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning nor crying nor pain any more, for the former things have passed away."
